Yesterday, I went to Mormon Rocks, I have no idea why they call it that, but it is up on Cajon Pass. Because the location is not exactly ideal, I was fortunate to have Jamie and Wendy answer my casting call. My only concern was that they were a bit inexperienced because I did not see too many photos on their portfolios. That did not turn out to be the case; both exceeded my expectations with their professionalism. The only hindrance I had was the environment itself.
With over 100lbs of gear to carry, the better rock formations required too much time and effort, instead, we settled at the rocks foothill. This location did not provide a very secure footing and was victim to very strong gusts of wind.
If not for the strong winds, I would have loved to pull out my large parabolic umbrellas, which would have given a softer yet still edgy light. However, the wind was much too strong, in fact, each beauty dish equipped light-stand required someone to hold it. It also wreaked havoc on the models, at times it got a little too dangerous, as the wind was pushing them towards the edge of the rocks. We came out with some great shots, and I would love to work with them again.
